Weekend Getaway

Bordering Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida, Alabama is very conveniently located and has numerous outdoor adventure opportunities close by.  So many in fact, that we recently created a "Weekend Getaway" series where we provide information on nearby weekend getaway destinations each month! Continuing with this serious, today we are highlighting Providence Canyon State Park in Georgia!

About Providence Canyon State Park

Located in Lumpkin, GA, just 3 hours and 15 minutes from Birmingham, Providence Canyon State Park is an excellent choice for a weekend getaway. Known as Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon," you will not want to forget your camera on this trip! As stated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the massive gullies were simply caused by poor farming practices during the 1800s, but today they make some of the prettiest photographs within the state!

This 1,003-acre state park truly is a gem. In just a short drive, you will feel like you have been transported somewhere out west! The park offers over 10 miles of hiking trails with incredible views of the canyons' pink, orange, red and purple hues. Backpackers can stay overnight along the backcountry trail, and those who wish to hike to canyons 4 and 5 are invited to join the Canyon Climbers Club.
